Sports Illustrated magazine published its first ever “Great American Sports Atlas” in a special 2004 year-end double issue. Cartographers from International Mapping worked with writer B.J. Schecter and the SI editorial and art staff to create the 32-page atlas.
Over 40 maps cover a diverse range of topics such as birthplaces of Olympic athletes, the history of Major League Baseball franchises and television viewership for NASCAR events. Visit our interactive spotlight on the atlas (here) for more detail on how the project came together and the different types of statistical mapping techniques used.
